Meghalaya Police solves case of stolen truck from Assam within two days, one arrested

Nongpoh, June 18: In yet another display of its efficiency and swiftness, Meghalaya police cracked an inter-state case within two days, and arrested one person and seized a stolen dumper truck from Nongpoh.

The dumper truck was stolen from a petrol pump in Guwahati in the wee hours of June 15, but it was recovered on June 17 at Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District.

The truck, bearing registered number AS 01 EC 3181, owned by one Dip Sharma of Lokhra in Guwahati was stolen by unknown people from a petrol pump at Biharbari where the truck was parked.

On receiving the information about the stolen case, the owner filed the FIR at Basistha police station and also the tracing of the truck was held, in which few friends of the truck owners tried their best to find the missing truck by collecting CCTV visuals at the Toll Plaza in Ri Bhoi District, where it was seen that the truck had passed through the toll plaza on June 16 at around 4 AM in the morning.

Subsequently, the friends of the truck owner, who were trying to find the missing truck in Ri Bhoi with the help of Ri Bhoi District Police, reportedly sighted the dumper truck while crossing Nongpoh areas. They chased the truck and detained it one petrol pump after crossing Nongpoh.

After detaining the truck, it was found that, the unknown miscreants had changed the registered number of the truck by placing duplicate Meghalaya number – ML 12 1242, and even changed the pasting done by the owner in the dumper truck just to mislead the public.

Meghalaya police has transferred the case to Assam Police for further investigation.
