SHILLONG, APR 24: West Jaintia Hills police have recovered two stolen scooties from Pdengshakap village and detained five persons, including four minors, following swift action on two separate theft complaints lodged on Thursday.
In a statement issued on Friday, Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) CW Lyngdoh said telephonic information was received on April 23 from Wanphida O Laloo of Ummulong village regarding the theft of his scooty, bearing registration No ML-05 W-6877, from Ialong Civil Hospital, Jowai.
CCTV footage analysis was done and one suspected vehicle was identified. Acting swiftly, intensive patrolling was conducted, leading to the interception of the suspected vehicle.
Five occupants, including four minors, were detained and brought to Phramer Traffic Cell, WJH District, for interrogation.
“During questioning, one child in conflict with law (CICL) disclosed that the stolen scooty had been taken to Pdengshakap village, West Jaintia Hills,” Lyngdoh said.
“Based on this input, a police team proceeded to the location and successfully recovered the stolen vehicle after observing due legal formalities.”
In a related development the same day, a complaint was received from Bastanroy Mawthoh of Nongmensong, Langkyrding, regarding the theft of his scooty, a Yamaha Ray ZR, Matt Black with golden rims, bearing registration No. ML-05 AF-5040, at around 2:30 AM.
This vehicle was also recovered from Pdengshakap village.
“Eventually, both vehicles have been secured and brought to the Phramer Traffic Cell for necessary legal action.”
Advising citizens to remain vigilant, the ASP said, “Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and ensure that their vehicles are properly secured at all times. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the nearest Police Station or by dialing 112.”
