SHILLONG, DEC 16: Tourism Minister Timothy D Shira has announced plans to install CCTV cameras at select tourist spots in the state, citing the need for enhanced security measures.

“We will take up installing CCTV cameras at places where we feel it is necessary,” Shira said, referencing the recent murder incident in Sohra.

“We will assess the need for cameras in various areas and install them accordingly.”

Shira emphasized that the decision to install CCTV cameras would be based on assessments by tourism officers from all districts.

“We will call a meeting, discuss, and get the assessment and report from them, and when they say it is necessary to install CCTV cameras in some places, then we will initiate,” he added.

The minister also highlighted the government’s focus on completing ongoing projects before initiating new ones.

“We have some projects which are yet to be completed, and we have to complete all the projects which are ongoing or are in the process of implementation,” Shira said.

Additionally, Shira mentioned plans to develop block tourism across the state to generate employment opportunities for local youth.
