Shillong , Nov 28: Meghalaya is set to strengthen its out-of-state support infrastructure, with Minister Sosthenes Sohtun reviewing key developments for new Meghalaya Houses in Bengaluru and Mumbai.
The Minister, who holds the C&RD, GAD, and SAD portfolios, inspected a recently purchased government building in Bengaluru that will soon be developed into a new Meghalaya House. He also visited a proposed plot in Mumbai, where the state is exploring the acquisition of land for constructing another Meghalaya House to meet growing demand.
PWD (Building) Superintending Engineer M. Nongpluh, staff of existing Meghalaya Houses, and other officials accompanied him during the inspection.

Speaking to the media, Minister Sohtun said the government is prioritising improved facilities for citizens travelling to metro cities for medical treatment, education, official work, or other personal needs. Strengthening Meghalaya Houses across India, he said, remains a key part of that effort.
He noted that the new Bengaluru property will significantly benefit the rising number of students and young professionals from the state who frequently travel to the tech hub for studies, interviews and job opportunities.
On the Mumbai proposal, the Minister acknowledged that the current Meghalaya House in the city is overcrowded and unable to meet the increasing demand, particularly from patients seeking specialised medical care.
He said discussions with the Maharashtra government on the proposed property are ongoing. The GAD department will soon formally communicate with Maharashtra to negotiate a more reasonable price, enabling Meghalaya to move forward with plans for a new, expanded Meghalaya House in Mumbai.
