Shillong, July 21: For thousands of Meghalaya residents travelling outside the state for education, medical treatment or official work, Meghalaya Houses often serve as a familiar place to stay. With demand growing, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday reviewed the progress of ongoing and proposed Meghalaya House projects across the country, stressing timely completion, better management and improved facilities.
During a virtual meeting with the Minister in charge of the General Administration Department (GAD) and senior officials, the Chief Minister assessed the construction, expansion and operational status of Meghalaya Houses in Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Vellore and Kolkata.
The review focused on infrastructure development, service delivery and the functioning of existing facilities. Sangma directed officials to adhere to project timelines while maintaining quality standards and ensuring the facilities are equipped to meet the increasing needs of Meghalaya residents travelling outside the state.
The meeting also discussed measures to strengthen the management of Meghalaya Houses, which provide accommodation and support to students, patients seeking medical treatment, government officials and other citizens. Earlier this year, the state also introduced an online booking system for Meghalaya Houses, making reservations and payments digital in a move aimed at improving accessibility and visitor convenience.
Emphasising that Meghalaya Houses should continue to serve as a “home away from home” for the people of the state, the Chief Minister asked officials to closely monitor project implementation and expedite pending works.
The review reflects the state government’s continued push to expand and modernise Meghalaya House infrastructure across major Indian cities, ensuring that Meghalaya residents have reliable accommodation and support services whenever they travel beyond the state.
