Shillong, Nov 5: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a 100-bedded Integrated Hospital at Ummulong in West Jaintia Hills district, with an estimated investment of Rs 53 crore.
The proposed facility is expected to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the district and improve access to specialised medical services for people in the region.

Highlighting the government’s focus on expanding healthcare delivery in rural areas, Sangma said the hospital would bring essential medical services closer to communities.
“The Integrated Hospital is part of our larger effort to strengthen primary and secondary healthcare, particularly in rural areas, ensuring that essential medical services are available closer to communities,” Sangma said.
“Over the last 8 years, we have worked to address gaps in healthcare infrastructure and manpower, while expanding medical education to increase the availability of doctors in the State,” he added.

The Chief Minister also acknowledged Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla and the Health Department for conceptualising the project.
Emphasising the importance of patient care alongside infrastructure development, Sangma said, “As we invest in infrastructure, let us remember that quality healthcare is not just about medicine, but also compassion, kindness and care for every patient.”
The project is part of the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen primary and secondary healthcare facilities, address gaps in medical infrastructure and improve healthcare access, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
