SHILLONG, JAN 15: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced that border talks with Assam will resume after the state’s elections, citing the current government’s preoccupation with election aspects.

“Elections are around the corner, so politically speaking, the current dispensation there (in Assam) and the government is not in a position to engage right now,” Sangma told reporters on Thursday.

The second phase of border talks aim to resolve the remaining six areas of difference between the two states, building on the progress made in 2022 when they signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to settle six points of dispute.

“Once the elections are over then we will move forward again and continue the process,” the CM assured.
