Landslide and Storm Devastate South West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya

Shillong, June 15: In the last 24 hours, South West Khasi Hills has experienced severe weather events, resulting in significant damage and displacement. A landslide occurred on Saturday in Mand and Lummawbah villages under the Mawkyrwat C&RD Block, affecting 18 residents and damaging three houses. Assessments of the full extent of the damage are ongoing.

Additionally, a storm struck Mawkhlaitngap village, also under the Mawkyrwat C&RD Block, impacting seven people and damaging one house. Detailed reports on the damage caused by both the landslide and the storm are still being compiled.

These incidents come after the region received 95 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, further contributing to the adverse conditions.
