Shillong, July 8: Shillong Police apprehended five individuals on Saturday in connection with a scuffle incident that occurred in Laitumkhrah late on Thursday night.

The clash between the two groups escalated to such a violent confrontation that it resulted in pelting of stones at the Laitumkhrah police station and torching of three vehicles parked inside the compound of the police station.

On Saturday, authorities took two individuals into custody from one group and three from the other group, all of whom were allegedly involved in the scuffle near the DHS office in Laitumkhrah.

While the police have refrained from revealing the identities of the arrested individuals, they confirmed that the five suspects were detained specifically for their involvement in the assault incident that transpired before the arson case, which occurred during a drunken brawl.

The five were produced before the Court on Saturday and remanded to five days of police custody.

Health Minister and Laitumkhrah legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh has stressed that those involved in vandalization and arson of the police station will be taken to task and dealt with according to the law. She also stated that additional measures will be implemented to ensure that people don’t loiter or be in large groups in the nooks and corners of Laitumkhrah, especially late at night and in an inebriated state.

She asserted that if the young people don’t know how to behave, then they should stay home.
