Shillong, May 12: The Delhi Unit of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) rescued a 22-year-old Khasi woman from East Jaintia Hills who was allegedly held captive by a man believed to be her boyfriend at his residence in Hasanpur, East Delhi.

The rescue was carried out on the morning of May 11 following an urgent plea for help from the victim. Acting swiftly, the KSU-Delhi, led by President Marbiang Khongwir and Vice President Donbok Pohrmen, reached out to the Delhi Police. However, three police stations initially declined to assist, citing the inability to trace the exact location of the man’s residence.

Despite the setbacks, the KSU continued its efforts and finally received assistance from the Madhu Vihar Police Station. Using technical tracking methods, the police located the suspect’s residence. The search operation began around 11:30 PM on May 10 and concluded at 5 AM on May 11, when the woman was found and rescued with the help of police personnel.

The accused was immediately detained and taken to Madhu Vihar Police Station for interrogation. Police recorded the victim’s statement and took her for a medical examination, accompanied by KSU members. However, the woman declined to file an official complaint against the man, leading to his release.

The KSU expressed gratitude to the Delhi Police, the Special Police Unit for North East Region (SPUNER), and Madhu Vihar Police Station for their timely support in ensuring the young woman’s safety.
