SHILLONG, JAN 4: The Dorbar ki Rangbah Kur, an assembly of clan elders will be held on January 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Community Hall of the Dorbar Shnong, Mission Compound. This important congregation is convened by Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur: Ka Bri u Hynñiewtrep to commemorate the Fifth Anniversary of the apex clan institution.
Given the presence of more than five thousand individual clans across the state, it is logistically impossible to send invitations to each clan. Therefore, it is humbly requested that at least three leaders from every clan attend the assembly of clan elders.
The assembly will focus on addressing several significant and often contentious issues concerning traditional customs, rights and privileges, and the overall welfare of the community. These deliberations will be guided by the shared goal of strengthening unity among all the clans.
We are honoured to announce that several distinguished guests will grace the occasion, including dignitaries from constitutional institutions and representatives of prominent community traditional bodies.
These include Pyniaid Sing Syiem, the Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), and Thombor Shiwat, the Chief Executive Member of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
The Syiems of various regions, including Dr. Balajied Sing Syiem of Hima Khyrim, Ainam Manik Syiem of Hima Mylliem, as well as other notable leaders such as the Syiem, Lyngdoh, Sirdar, and Wahadadar of various provinces, will also be in attendance. Apart from the invited dignitaries, there will be a keynote address by R L Kharpran, President of the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur and a special address by Prof Streamlet Dkhar.
A key feature of the event will be a symposium on the theme ‘Tehsong ia ki Kur Ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep’ (The Communal Bond of All the Clans in Hynñiewtrep Land). This symposium will be moderated by Erwin K. Syiem Sutnga, with insightful deliberations by esteemed speakers such as Rapionglang Blah and R.S. Khardewsaw. There will be active participation from all the units of the apex clan institution, culminating in closing remarks by Raphael Warjri.
The day’s events will also include a special tribute to the late Hisprechering Son Shylla, the founding president of the institution. His contributions will be honoured posthumously, with a memento presented to his family members as a symbol of gratitude and respect.
This assembly promises to be a significant milestone in the journey of Ka Bri Hynñiewtrep and a moment for all clans to come together in solidarity for the preservation and progress of their shared heritage and community welfare.
