Shillong, Feb 25: Education Minister and NPP leader Rakkam A Sangma today remarked on the performance of the party in the Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls in Khasi Hills, while stating that it will not impact council election in Garo Hills.
“…There is nothing to connect, the outcome of the KHADC elections to the GHADC election. It is too early to debate and discuss,” he said.
On Congress making inroads in Garo Hills, the minister said, “You mentioned the outcome of the Gambegre election, right? Just after one day, the next day, we lost the general election, but the next day we won the Gambegre election. Elections are like this… As a party, we are ready to bounce back. This is the beauty of our democracy”.
Talking on the debacle of the Congress in bye-election for Gambegre, he said, “We bounced back in the Gambegre elections. We understand the political pitch of every constituency, every region, the state, and the country.”
On acceptability of NPP in Khasi Hills, he said, “This is the beauty of the election. And I don’t have to comment on this. We will, but definitely, it’s a choice of the people. People need different hands today. Once given the mandate, we have to accept it. I also congratulate all the winners, who are the choice of the people. It’s a mandate of the people, and they will see the color of the test now.”.
