Jowai, May 17: Kyrshanlang Sungoh of Mookhap Village, West Jaiñtia Hills, was found guilty of rape under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment. The case, registered as Jowai P.S Case No. 165(09)2010 U/S 376 IPC, dates to 2010.

N.A. Khan, Sessions Judge, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai, delivered the verdict. Sungoh was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 5000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional one month of simple imprisonment.

The court has recommended compensation of Rs. 5,00,000 for the victim, ensuring that justice extends beyond the conviction. This verdict underscores the ongoing commitment to justice and the protection of victims’ rights.
