Guwahati, Sept 22: The NorthEast United FC would like to keep their wining momentum going as they take on Mohun Bagan SG in their Indian Super League (ISL 2024-25) match at the VYBK, Kolkata on Monday.
The Highlanders would be looking to repeat the result of the Durand Cup final where they defeated the Mohun Bagan SG. This will be almost like a rematch as Mohun Bagan SG would be back for vengeance in their home turf.
Carrying their form forward from the Durand Cup win, the NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) opened their ISL 2024-25 campaign with a 1-0 win away to another Kolkata club Mohammedan SC, while Mohun Bagan SG played out a 2-2 draw against Mumbai City FC in the ISL opener.
NEUFC is motivated to take on the Bengal giants One of the team’s youngsters, knowing the intensity will be much higher this time. Thoi Singh, one of NEUFC’s younger stars, expressed that the team is upbeat before facing the Mariners. “The entire team is motivated to play against Mohun Bagan. The Durand Cup has certainly given us an added motivation. On the field it’s 11 vs 11, so we are looking forward to the game,” Thoi, 20, said.
NorthEast United FC head coach Juan Pedro Benali also expressed that playing against Mohun Bagan at Salt Lake Stadium is good enough motivation for the squad. “Playing against Mohun Bagan, you don’t need more motivation. We are going to play against Mohun Bagan in their field again. We know they will be waiting for us. That is a big enough motivation for us,” he said.
