HNYF appeals to USTM Chancellor for access to MBBS course for underprivileged students

Nongpoh, Oct 12: Members of the Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Ri Bhoi District Unit on Friday met the Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) M. Hoque seeking his consideration for the admission of the students from the underprivileged background especially those who wants to pursue MBBS studies.

Led by its president H. Lyngdoh, accompanied by the General Secretary Alfred Mallai and the Vice President of Central Executive Committee M. Manih, the group called on the USTM Chancellor raising the concern of admission opportunity for those studying who wish to pursue higher education in this prestigious institution.

Speaking to the media, Mallai said the organisation, having responsibility to uplift education in the state, has been informed that many students have to stop their higher studies due to the higher fees for different streams especially those in medical streams.

“On this matter, the organisation met the Chancellor to address this issue and requested him to consider those students from the underprivileged background for pursuing higher studies in the esteemed University, especially those wanting to pursue medical studies,” Mallai said.

He further stated that the meeting was a fruitful one as the Chancellor has agreed to look into the matter and also to consider students’ admission in the institute.
