Shillong, Aug 18: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has expressed deep grief over the passing of former Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, Kong Rebecca V. Suchiang.
In a condolence message, Sangma described Suchiang as a respected civil servant and noted her contribution to the state’s administration and public service.
“As the first indigenous woman Chief Secretary, Kong Rebecca made bold decisions at tough times and was respected for her leadership among her peers, her guidance to her juniors and her inspiring work ethics,” the Chief Minister said.
Sangma also recalled her determination during her prolonged illness, saying she “fought bravely” and continued to work despite her health challenges.
“Her service and dedication to the state will be remembered,” he said, while extending his deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.
Suchiang, a 1989-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, took oath as the first indigenous lady Chief Secretary of the State of Meghalaya on September 30, 2021 after succeeds M S Rao.
The only other lady Chief Secretary of Meghalaya was PP Trivedi who held office from 1983-85.
