Shillong, July 28: Meghalaya’s Minister in-charge of Tourism department, Paul Lyngdoh, on Friday said the Meghalaya Government is trying to identify new routes for all tourist cabs to ply into the states without causing traffic congestion within the Shillong city.
He informed that Umiam- Mawlyndep route is one of such routes but it is under construction.
The Minister also informed that the newly launched Innova vehicles initiated by the government are exclusively meant for ferrying tourists and will help to bring down the number of cars coming from Assam.
A total of 50 tourist vehicles were launched by the government, last month.
Emphasising on the need of good hotels and homestays as part of boosting tourism sector in the state, Paul said that, “We are looking at the homestay project, wherein in the next few months until March, we are ready to sanction 1000 homestays, we also have segregated the rural from the urban centres.”
The Minister also stated that they are coming up with new resorts in Umiam and Sohra.
