TURA, June 20: Catholic institutions across the five districts of Garo Hills will hold a peace rally on Friday (June 23) in their respective premises to seek return of peace to the strife town state of Manipur where over 100 people have been killed in ethnic clashes and thousands of homes destroyed and families displaced.
“On Friday 23 June, all the Catholic Institutions in the five districts of Garo Hills will hold a PEACE ASSEMBLY/RALLY within the school/college premises to express solidarity with the suffering people of Manipur and pray for an immediate end to violence and restoration of peace in that State. During the Prayer assembly the students will be made of aware of the seriousness of the existing situation in Manipur and the urgency of putting an end to violence and senseless attacks on precious life and property including places of worship,” announced the statement from Tura Bishop House.
Placards highlighting the importance of peace, reconciliation and fraternity will be used during the rally and The prayer assembly will be of ALL Faith in nature and will consist of reading from Sacred Scriptures, prayers said from various Faiths and Denominations including the well-known songs of St. Francis Assisi or Rabindranath Tagore such as “Lord make me an instrument of peace”, “Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake”.
All the Catholic Christians are being exhorted to keep Saturday, 24th June as a day of prayer and fasting for Manipur. In the evening of that day, all the Catholic parishes in the five districts of Garo Hills, will hold a candle lit prayer rally/procession in the parish campus
for restoration of peace and tranquillity in Manipur, the church informed.
