FKJGP President issues apology after violence erupted in unemployment rally

Shillong, Oct 28: President of the Federation of the Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) president Dundee Khongsit, in a statement, issued an apology after violence erupted at the FKJGP unemployment rally.

While stating the violence, Khongsit calls it a reaction of the unemployed youths’ frustration on the issue.

The FKJGP had earlier carried a ‘peaceful’ rally against unemployment which was joined by several other NGOs like KSU, RBYF, HNYF as they marched from Motphran towards Madan Iewrynghep (Firebrigade Ground).

As the violence ensued, Khongsit has apologised on the matter saying that he did not expect such a thing to happen. “Before the start of the rally, we have already appealed and have told the youths attended that this is a peaceful rally..unfortunately we incident happened.”

“As a leader I have seen so much frustration within the youths… because some youths are a victims of the 2019 police result”, added Khongsit.

It should also be mentioned, during the protest march several innocent passersby were assaulted, including two journalists and one police vehicle was also vandalised along with few motorbikes.
