Kohima, Aug 25: The apex bodies of five Nagaland tribes have declined the invitation to attend the gubernatorial swearing-in ceremony in Kohima.

Manipur Governor Akay Kumar Bhalla is scheduled to take additional charge of Nagaland on Monday, following President Droupadi Murmu’s decision after the demise of Governor La Ganesan.

The Angami Public Organisation, Ao Senden, Lotha Hoho, Rengma Hoho, and Sumi Hoho announced that their representatives would abstain from the oath-taking ceremony, citing their protest resolution adopted on August 9.

The five tribes have been demanding a review of the state’s reservation policy, which they allege disproportionately favours 10 “backward” Naga tribes.

Their Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) has also criticised the State Cabinet’s decision to set up a seven-member Job Reservation Commission headed by a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Nagaland cadre.
