Father Bernard Laloo ordained as auxiliary Bishop of Shillong Archdiocese

Shillong, March 30: The solemn Episcopal Ordination of Bishop Bernard Laloo was observed on Sunday at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Father Bernard Laloo was ordained as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Shillong. The ordination was officiant by Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh, several dignitaries, clergy members, and faithful in attendance.

Bishop Laloo’s appointment by Pope Francis was officially announced on February 8, 2025.

Born on June 16, 1976, in Laitlyngkot, Bishop Bernard Laloo, was ordained a priest on April 30, 2006. Throughout his years of service in the Archdiocese, Bishop Laloo has held key roles, including Assistant at St. Paul’s Church, Upper Shillong, Administrator of Christ the King College, Shillong, Dean of Studies at St. Paul’s Seminary, Shillong, Principal of Divine Saviour Higher Secondary School, Laitumkhrah, Director of the Social Service Centre, Shillong and Chancellor of the Archdiocese. He also served as the Parish Priest of the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah.

Bishop Laloo is academically accomplished, holding a bachelor’s degree in education and a Master of Arts in Sociology. He has also earned Post Graduate Diplomas in Counselling Psychology. Beyond his ecclesiastical duties, he has contributed to social causes, having been a member of the Farmers’ Commission and the State Tuberculosis Co-morbidity Coordination Committee of the Government of Meghalaya.

The ordination ceremony witnessed a significant turnout of clergy, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong graced the occasion, extending their congratulations to the newly ordained bishop.

Following the sacred rites, the day concluded with a Benediction and vibrant cultural performances.
