Shillong, Oct 27: “The Voice of the People Party (VPP) comprises of intellectual people, so it’s best if they give more suggestions than just criticism,” says Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma following the demand of the VPP to remove the Education Minister from his portfolio from the Chief Minister of Meghalaya.

The VPP wrote to Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma recently and voiced their concerns over Rakkam A Sangma’s suitability and alleged lack of knowledge regarding the education department .

Minister Rakkam A. Sangma said while speaking to reporters, “They (VPP) are educated people, so we (Government) expect them not just to give criticism but expect them to suggest. Everyone, be it in the opposition or in the government, we have our own responsibility in serving and contributing to the people.”

He further extended an open invitation for suggestions from the VPP, asserting that their input would be valued, whether directed towards his role as Minister or towards the Education Department as a whole.

Acknowledging Meghalaya’s status as the “Educational Hub” of the North East, Minister Sangma welcomed contributions from academicians, scholars, and intellectuals, highlighting the potential benefits for the state.

In a final statement, Minister Sangma emphasised that both the government and opposition play pivotal roles in shaping the state’s trajectory, underlining the shared responsibility in governance.
