Shillong, Aug 10: A 19-year-old youth, Giten Patho of Barigaon village, was killed in a suspected hit-and-run accident near Iew Sohksang at around 2 a.m. on Sunday.
Patho was riding his scooty (AS25Z9834) from the Assam side towards his village when he was allegedly hit by a truck (AS25FC1660) travelling in the same direction.
The impact killed him on the spot and left his two-wheeler completely damaged. The truck driver fled the scene, but the vehicle was later detained at Byrnihat Outpost. Patho was taken to CHC Patharkhmah, where doctors declared him dead.
Police have handed the body to the family after completing formalities. An investigation into the incident is underway.
