East Khasi Hills police warn against loud exhausts, illegal vehicle modifications

Shillong, May 8: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem on Thursday said there has been a rise in the number of vehicles, both two-wheelers and four wheelers, which are retrofitted with loud exhaust pipes causing noise pollution in the city, especially at unearthly hours causing immense discomfort to the elderly and infirm as well as to the public at large.

Despite repeated appeals made time and again, vehicles are still seen using non-standard number plates, unauthorized black/tinted films, blinkers/flash lights and sirens on their vehicles flouting the traffic rules and regulations, Syiem said in a statement.

In this regard, motorists are advised to refrain from the aforementioned violations in order to ensure road safety and a safe environment for the public, he said adding that violators shall be penalized as per provision of law.
