SHILLONG, MAY 8: Deputy Chief Minister and NPP national vice president Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday accused the opposition Voice of the People Party of “playing politics” with the reservation policy issue, pointing to its absence from an all-party meeting that the VPP itself had strongly demanded.

“The Chief Minister replied very clearly yesterday. I express the same views as what the Chief Minister had expressed on the matter,” Dhar said when asked about the VPP skipping the meeting on the reservation policy report.

Calling the no-show “unfortunate,” he said, “It is very unfortunate to see that this particular party did not attend the meeting which had been extremely demanded by them to call for an all-party meeting.”

When questioned if the VPP was politicising the issue, Dhar responded, “You rightly said it. It seems that they are just playing politics as they are not serious with this issue.”

He stressed that the government had met the VPP’s demand, yet the party failed to turn up.

“Whatever the case may be, the Chief Minister has called an all-party meeting which has been requested especially by the VPP and we have done it. We have called the meeting and all political parties have attended it, but it is only the VPP which was not there, which means they are not serious. It is as simple as that,” Dhar said.

The all-party meeting was convened to discuss the report on the State’s reservation policy.
