Conrad re-elected as NPP national president for the fourth consecutive term

New Delhi, March 15: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma was re-elected as national president of the National People’s Party (NPP) for the fourth consecutive term on Saturday. Sangma was re-elected unopposed for the tenure from 2025-28.

The organisational election of the party was held at the Constitutional Club of India, New Delhi on Saturday.

Conrad Sangma was first elected as the NPP supremo in 2016, after the demise of his father, late Purno A Sangma, in the same year due to cardiac arrest. He was subsequently re-elected to the party’s top post in 2019, 2022 and now in 2025.

Meanwhile, former cabinet minister and former state working president Arunachal Pradesh Paknga Bage was elected unopposed as General Secretary (Organisation), while Dr Mehtab Agitok Sangma was re-elected unopposed as national treasurer.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya State President Prestone Tynsong and Manipur State President Joy Kumar Singh have suggested appointment of James K Sangma, the outgoing General Secretary (Organisation), as the national working president of the party.

Re-elected national president Conrad K Sangma announced that the members of the National Committee 2025-28 will be announced shortly.

NPP became the first party from the north-eastern region to be recognized as a national party by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in 2019.
