Shillong, Feb 7: The opposition Congress has requested the other two opposition political parties – All India Trinamool Congress (or TMC) and Voice of the People Party (VPP) – to work together during the upcoming budget session of the Assembly, which will commence from February 16 to 27.
“We have written to them (TMC and VPP) on the matter. We are yet to get a response,” Leader of Opposition Ronnie V Lyngdoh, who is also a CLP leader, said.
Asked, Lyngdoh said, “We are writing to them since there will be a budget session starting on February 16, we have invited them if all the three opposition political parties can come together and take up issues (concerning the state collectively).”
The total strength of the opposition bench is 14 of which 5 are from Congress, 5 from TMC and 4 from VPP.
The LO however said that the opposition in the Assembly are not divided since the three political parties have their own separate identity.
“You cannot say we are divided as we have separate political identities. Only thing is that we have not come together,” he said.
Whether there is a possibility for the three opposition parties to form an alliance, Lyngdoh said it will be very good for all three opposition parties to have a forum.
“But if you cannot have a forum but then if we can come together during the Assembly session and take up issues collectively I think that will be good enough,” he said while adding “We have written to them so I hope we will get a positive response from them.”
