Shillong, June 17: The twitter ( now X) handle of the Kerela Congress has removed its remarks over the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pope Francis following widespread criticism from the BJP and allies who termed the attack as “distasteful” and “offensive”.

The Kerela Congress had taunted the prime minister with a sarcastic tweet on its official handle on X with the statement, “Finally, the Pope got a change to meet God!”

The Congress made the remark following Modi’s interaction with the Pope during the G7 meet in Italy, this week.

The Congress took to ridiculing the prime minister after he claimed during the election campaign that he was not born biological- an indication to be a super being.

The pontiff is the head of the Catholic church and is revered among millions of catholics as a “living saint” and next to God.

The BJP termed the remarks as “offensive” and hurtful to religious sentiments, particularly of the christians who are among the three largest communities in Kerela.

While the BJP big guns have been going all out against the Congress for the remarks, seniormost BJP leader in the Lok Sabha from the North East, Arunachal MP and union minister Kiren Rijiju appealed to all to stop the hatred against one another.

We are all political opponents, not enemies. Let’s not hate each other. It is in bad taste to insult Supreme Pontiff (The Pope), stated Kiren Rijiju in a statement on X.
