Guwahati, July 7: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday ended speculation over the Congress party contesting alone in the 2026 Assembly elections, stating that the party is seriously considering a pre-poll alliance.

Speaking to reporters, Gogoi said the Congress has already initiated talks with a few parties and is open to discussions with others.

“We need discussions. Social service and electoral politics are different matters. When political decisions arise, Congress will talk to everyone. In elections, Congress will listen to everyone and talk to everyone. We have already held discussions with some political party leaders,” Gogoi said.

With the Assembly elections less than a year away, all major political parties in Assam have begun strategizing to gain an advantage.

Meanwhile, the Assam United Citizens’ Convention saw participation from several leading figures, including Yogendra Yadav and Hiren Gohain.
