Resubelpara, April 27: North Garo Hills police foiled an abduction attempt and rescued a local businessman within half an hour of the crime being reported, officials said on Monday.

According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, the incident happened on April 25 around 3:00 PM when Bajengdoba Police Station received inputs from residents in the Bolsong area about unidentified individuals abducting a businessman in a silver Maruti Ertiga (ML-08-K-5869).

Acting immediately, police set up a naka (checkpoint) at Mansinggre. By approximately 3:30 PM, the suspect vehicle—accompanied by the victim’s motorcycle being ridden by one of the accused—was intercepted. The abducted businessman was found inside the vehicle and rescued unharmed.

Preliminary investigations revealed that three accused had intercepted the victim along the Bolsong–Agia road. They allegedly forced him to stop, snatched his motorcycle key and mobile phone, demanded his trading licence, and searched him before robbing him of ₹30,000 in cash. The assailants then forcibly took him into their vehicle, while one of them rode his motorcycle alongside. The victim managed to raise an alarm, alerting nearby villagers who informed the police.

Police have identified and apprehended the three accused- Tenggra Ch. Marak alias Togan (36), a resident of South Garo Hills, Dipon D. Sangma (38), from West Garo Hills
Lovingson R. Marak (33), also from West Garo Hills.

During interrogation, the prime accused, Tenggra Marak, claimed links with an organisation named United Garo People’s Forum, though police have not confirmed the nature of this association.

A case has been registered at Bajengdoba Police Station (Case No. 03/2026) under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to abduction, robbery, and criminal conspiracy.
