Williamnagar, April 17: Two young men from Assam along with their hired driver have been found murdered, their bodies burnt beyond recognition and buried in two shallow graves in the Rongmil area, 15 kms from Rongjeng in East Garo Hills.

The murder, coming on the eve of polling, has sent shock waves across the region.

Police sources inform that the three men left Goalpara very early hours of Tuesday morning and their last call was made sometime around 6 AM when they informed family members that they were having breakfast on the road after entering East Garo Hills through the Damra-Dainadubi-Wageasi road to Rongmil.

Their family began to worry after none of them could be contacted for almost an entire day and alerted authorities.

Police located the maruti swift vehicle that they had hired deep inside a bamboo forest completely burnt down in Rongmil area.

A further probe of the crime scene revealed the spot where the men are suspected to have been executed and burnt before the bodies were buried in a shallow grave.

Two of the bodies were reportedly found buried together in one grave, while another grave contained the body of one man, believed to be the driver of the vehicle.

Two of the victims have been identified as Jamar Ali and Nur Mohammed from Goalpara’s Dolguma who had hired the vehicle to come to Garo Hills.

Meghalaya police is releasing a detailed report on the incident, shortly.
