Guwahati, May 16: The Assam government has greenlit several major infrastructure projects, including a milk processing plant and two five-star hotels in Guwahati, following a cabinet meeting held on Friday.
Speaking at Lok Sewa Bhawan, Cabinet Ministers Ranoj Pegu and Ranjit Das said the state is accelerating efforts to enhance milk production. A key decision includes the establishment of a milk collection and processing facility by Amul at Rani, near Guwahati.
The land, owned by the Institute of Farm Management under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Protein, will be leased to Amul for 30 years.
The cabinet also proposed renaming Dibrugarh Airport in honor of legendary cultural figure Dr. Bhupen Hazarika as part of his birth centenary celebrations. A special one-day session of the Assam Legislative Assembly has been scheduled for September 9 to discuss the proposal.
Additionally, in order to boost tourism and hospitality, two luxury hotel projects have been approved. Jonali Construction Private Limited will invest Rs 335.25 crore in a five-star hotel, generating approximately 800 jobs—400 direct and 400 indirect. The other 5-star hotel, Courtyard by Marriott, will be set up by Downtown Hospital Limited with an investment of Rs 122.73 crore, expected to employ around 200 people.
The ministers emphasized that the “Advantage Assam” initiative is yielding results, with each cabinet meeting now focused on fast-tracking economic development and job creation through new projects.
