Guwahati, Aug 20: A Bangladeshi woman, who illegally entered in Assam along with 17 others, was handed back to Bangladeshi authorities.

The woman has been identified as Lipi Akhtar from Dhaka.

“The Bangladeshi woman was apprehended from Dhubri and after investigation it was found that she entered India illegally on August 18 at Sukchar in South Salmara district on foot after multiple bus and boat rides spanning over 24-hours from Dhaka,” said a police official.

He added, “After taking shelter at a house in Sukchar, she proceeded to Dhubri by boat where she was intercepted. A manhunt is underway to trace other accomplices and other infiltrators.”

Speaking to media persons, Lipi Akhtar said, “We came in a bus from Bangladesh upto Kuri gram and after that we walked a long way to enter India. We have crossed three rivers before entering India. A total of 17 persons came with us. Last night my husband was separated from me and they took away all my belongings.”

Meanwhile, Assam police have launched a massive manhunt to nab the other infiltrators who sneaked into Indian territory.

On the other hand, Assam police apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals on Monday night who had entered into India through Tripura.

The individuals were identified as Md. Abu Shaid, Asadul Islam and Md Sarwar. All three of them were from Rajshahi district of Bangladesh.

“One of them was found with an Aadhaar card, having entered India for the second time. All three intended to travel to Chennai for labour work. They have since been pushed back to Bangladesh,” said the police official.
