Arunachal: 15 people injured in group clash at Namsai, 144 CrPC imposed

Guwahati, Jan 14: At least 15 people were injured after a group clash erupted between two communities in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai on Saturday night.

According to reports, all the injured have been admitted at AMCH for further treatment.

Namsai Superintendent of police confirmed the development and said the situation is presently under control. He said 144CrPc has been promulgated to control the law and order situation.

“We are taking all possible measures to control the situation. Now the situation is under control,” he said.

Sources said a spat started between an Adivasi youth and a Khamati youth and suddenly the verbal spat turned violent. “Gun shots were heard during the incident. The two community started fighting with each other. Sharp weapons and guns were used during the incident,” a source said.

Meanwhile, Namsai District administration has clamped Section 144 CrPC after the clash between the two communities. “An incident of clash between All Tai Khamti Singpho Youths and Adivasi Youths of Namsai causing serious law and order problem has happened during the intervening night of 14/01/2024. Whereas the situations still remains volatile which may flare up at any time further deteriorating the law and order situation,” the order stated.

On the other hand, the Tinsukia district administration has also issued an advisory for the travelling pilgrims. The pilgrims have been advised not to take Kakopathar-Dirak Gate route to reach Parshuram Kund until further advisory. It has asked them to take Doomdooma-Rupai Siding-Talap-Sunpura, Doomdooma-Rupai Siding -Talap – Chapakhowa – Shantipur Gate – Roing route.
