SHILLONG, OCT 20: Senior BJP leader AL Hek has urged UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh to remain with the party and rebuild it, despite the mass exodus of its legislators.
The UDP suffered yet another jolt after its three remaining MLAs merged with the NPP, days after eight of its MLAs joined the BJP, leaving Metbah as the lone UDP legislator.
Commenting on the development, Hek said, “I appreciate him. He stands on his own principle and ideology. He should continue to strengthen the UDP party.”
“Today everybody has left the UDP, but I request all party workers and the state president to stick to principles. Politics can change anytime,” he added.
Calling Metbah a good friend, Hek said, “We have been working together for so many years. I want him to stick with the UDP. We don’t know what will happen, the UDP may get more numbers in the days to come.”
“I wish my friend Metbah Lyngdoh all the best. He should stand as he stands today,” he said.
On the UDP’s road ahead, the Pynthorumkhrah MLA said, “That will be the strategy of the UDP and its leaders. If they change their strategy and bring in good leaders to contest on a UDP ticket in 2028, nothing will stop them.”
