Nongstoin, Oct 3: The Court of the District and Sessions Judge, West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin, has sentenced Banphrangkupar Nongbri to rigorous imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life without parole in the 2021 Nongstoin twin murder case.
The verdict was pronounced on September 30, 2026, in Nongstoin PS Case No. 54(08)2021, registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In the 2021 Nongstoin twin murder case (Nongstoin PS Case No. 54(08)2021), the District & Sessions Judge, West Khasi Hills, on 30.09.2026 convicted the accused and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for the rest of his natural life without parole.

The court also imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh for each victim.
The case dates back to August 2021, when 79-year-old Phlesis Syiem and her 25-year-old domestic helper, Maitlynti Lyngdoh Marshillong, were found murdered in Nongstoin.
According to police, the primary motive was robbery. Syiem was a wealthy woman who lived alone with her domestic helper.

Nongbri was temporarily residing in Shillong while awaiting his degree results when the murders took place. Police said he confessed to the crime during the investigation.
Investigators also recovered blood-stained shoes and two mobile phones belonging to the victims from his possession.
With the court verdict, the high-profile case has reached its conclusion. Meghalaya Police marked the outcome under its campaign banner, “Justice Delivered.”
