Guwahati, Aug 11: An alleged ₹85 lakh contribution to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund has now turned into a demand for an independent probe, with the youth wing of the Raijor Dal seeking clarity from the Chief Minister’s Office on the source of the amount and the verification carried out before accepting it.
At a press conference at the Press Club in Guwahati on Tuesday, members of the Jatiya Yuva Bahini raised three key questions: what verification was conducted by the Chief Minister’s Office before accepting the donation, what documented proof exists regarding the source of the ₹85 lakh, and why a social media acknowledgement of the donation by Abhigyan Bora and the Bora Foundation was subsequently removed from the CMO’s social media page.
The organisation also questioned Bora’s alleged claim of being featured in Forbes India’s ‘30 Under 30’ list, saying his name could not be found on the Forbes India website and questioning the validity of a certificate reportedly displayed in connection with the claim. These allegations have not been independently verified.
The youth wing also raised questions over alleged purchases made in Bora’s name on January 1, 2024. It claimed that invoices showed the purchase of 12 JCB machines worth around ₹3.52 crore, along with several vehicles, including Land Rover models, valued at around ₹58.59 crore.
The organisation questioned how a 21-year-old could allegedly make purchases worth more than ₹60 crore and subsequently make an ₹85 lakh contribution to the state’s relief fund.
“Where did the ₹85 lakh come from?” the organisation asked, urging the Chief Minister’s Office to make the matter transparent.
The youth wing further alleged that people from Lakhimpur and neighbouring areas had given large sums of money to Bora for trading, allegedly on the promise of guaranteed returns, but had not received their money back. The claims of financial disputes have not been independently substantiated.
The organisation said these alleged disputes gained attention after the CMO acknowledged the donation and urged the Chief Minister and the CMO to investigate the source of the ₹85 lakh, as well as the financial affairs of Bora and the Bora Foundation.
It also demanded that the CMO disclose the verification process followed before accepting the contribution.
The youth wing further claimed that some people with alleged financial disputes involving Bora were reluctant to approach the authorities because of fears of intimidation. These claims remain unverified.
“This is not only a question about Abhigyan Bora,” the organisation said, arguing that the government should also examine other large donations and the circumstances surrounding them.
The allegations raised at the press conference have not been independently verified or established. The Raijor Dal youth wing’s demand, meanwhile, is for a transparent inquiry into the donation, the verification process and the wider allegations surrounding Bora.
