Tura, July 23: Two persons are feared dead and two others injured after a fire engulfed a residential house and adjoining shops at Rajabala Market in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills on Thursday.
According to preliminary information, the deceased have been identified as Rajinikant Bhomik and his wife Kamala Kanta Bhomik. Their daughter and grandson sustained injuries in the incident and were rushed for treatment.
The blaze completely destroyed the Bhomik family’s residence along with two shops attached to the property.
West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Abraham T. Sangma said authorities are still verifying the details of the incident.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established. Police and other authorities are continuing their investigation, while the extent of the damage is being assessed.
