Shillong, July 22: Meghalaya’s young singing sensation Kitkupar Nongsiej has brought international recognition to India by winning three gold medals, two bronze medals and the prestigious First Place Scholarship Award at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2026 held in Las Vegas.
Although he narrowly missed the coveted Grand Champion Performer of the World title, Kitkupar emerged as one of India’s standout performers at the global championship, competing against talented artists from more than 70 countries.
The Meghalaya vocalist impressed judges with his performances across multiple musical categories, earning two gold medals and two bronze medals for his entries in different song genres. His versatility, vocal range and stage presence also secured him another gold medal after finishing among the Top Five Vocalists in the fiercely contested Vocalist of the World Championship, one of the event’s highest honours.
Adding to his success, Kitkupar was awarded the First Place Scholarship, recognising his exceptional artistic potential and opening doors for advanced international training and exposure in the performing arts.
His achievements have been hailed as a proud moment for Meghalaya, the Northeast and India, with the Don Bosco family describing his performance as the result of years of dedication, discipline and perseverance.
While the overall world championship title remained out of reach, Kitkupar’s medal haul has firmly established him among India’s most promising young performers and placed Meghalaya on the global performing arts map.
