Shillong, May 15: A disturbing video that surfaced recently allegedly shows a village headman of Pynter near Pynursla, Fullmoon Khongsdoh, along with members of the Village Defence Party (VDP), beating a youth to death inside the village dorbar hall.
According to sources close to the family, the youth was allegedly nabbed by the village authority after he was suspected of carrying alcohol.
According to the FIR, the suspected assault leading to the youth’s death allegedly took place on the night of April 7, 2026. It further stated that VDP members brought the body back to the victim’s home on the morning of April 8, 2026.
An FIR regarding the incident was lodged at Sadar Police Station on May 5, 2026, by a resident of Pynter village under Pynursla Civil Sub-Division, who identified himself as the father of the deceased youth allegedly beaten to death inside the Dorbar Hall.
As per the complaint, the body of the youth was wrapped in a sack when it was brought home on the morning of April 8. The body was buried the next day, April 9, without even allowing the complainant, who is the victim’s father, to pay his last respects.
The FIR also alleged that the father was never allowed to properly see his son’s body, as even the coffin had reportedly been sealed by the village headman. According to the father’s statement, the family was initially informed during the last rites that the youth had died after allegedly consuming poison.
However, after a video of the incident later surfaced, the father came to believe that his son may have died due to severe physical assault. It was after seeing the video that he decided to lodge a formal complaint with the police.
Copies of the FIR were forwarded to the Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills district on May 6, 2026, and to the Officer-in-Charge of Pynursla Police Station on May 8, 2026.
