Guwahati, April 29: Guwahati resident Bhabana Sharma, who had left home and was later found in Shillong, has finally spoken on social media about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, alleging prolonged emotional distress and threats.
Sharma said she left home voluntarily on April 24, stressing that no one else was involved. “No one took me, and no third person was involved. No Uber or Rapido driver had any role,” she clarified.
She said she travelled to Jalukbari before heading from Paltanbazar to Shillong. Addressing a distress message sent earlier to her family, Sharma admitted, “The message I sent to my mother saying I was in danger was not true. I was under extreme emotional distress at the time.”

According to Sharma, she checked into a hotel in Shillong alone, with CCTV footage confirming her stay. “I was anxious, confused, and not thinking clearly. At one point, I even thought of ending my life, but later decided to return,” she said.
She added that she sought help from a woman the following morning and contacted her mother, after which she returned home with assistance from Assam Police.
Revealing the background to the incident, Sharma alleged she had been in a relationship with Nihar Jyoti Sarma for two years and had been facing sustained threats. “I was told that if I tried to leave, my private photos and videos would be made public. I was also threatened with harm to me and my family. I lived in fear for a long time,” she said.
Sharma confirmed that she has filed an FIR and is cooperating with the investigation.
Appealing to the public, she urged people not to speculate or spread rumours. “This is a difficult time for me and my family. I request everyone to avoid assumptions. To anyone facing similar situations—please speak up and seek help,” she said, adding that she is now focusing on recovery.
