SHILLONG, MAR 26: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has announced the government’s decision to construct around 680 new school buildings across the state under the phase-IV of the Mission Education.
“…each school expected to receive approximately ₹70 lakh,” Rymbui said while inaugurating the newly constructed building of Darang L.P. School on Thursday.
Focusing on infrastructure development, the Minister noted that several initiatives have been implemented under the Mission Education programme.
He stated that the newly inaugurated school building is part of Mission Education Phase III.
Rymbui highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the state government since 2018 to improve the education sector.

He said that during discussions with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the government identified four key pillars for rebuilding education- infrastructure, teachers, policy, and students, which continue to guide its reforms.
He also announced that the Amlarem constituency is likely to benefit from 8 to 11 new school buildings under the upcoming phase, which is expected to significantly enhance educational facilities in the area.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, Rymbui said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, substantial investments amounting to crores have been made to strengthen the education sector for future generations.
He also highlighted policy measures such as the introduction of a pay scale policy for Adhoc and SSA teachers to improve their welfare and motivation.
On the occasion, the Minister handed over a computer classroom along with related facilities, funded under SRWP 2025–2026, aimed at promoting digital learning among students.
The Headmaster of Darang L.P. School spoke about the history and development of the institution, while the SDSEO emphasised the importance of improving educational infrastructure and academic growth in the area.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the Secretary of the School Managing Committee, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, officials and community members for their continued support towards the advancement of education in the region.
