SHILLONG, MAR 13: Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar inaugurated a mobile processing unit on Friday, aiming to bring value‑addition technology directly to Meghalaya’s growers.
Developed by Northeast Centre for Technology Application & Reach (NECTAR) with Mysuru’s CSIR‑CFTRI, the truck‑mounted unit can process local produce at farm sites.
In his address, the Governor called the MPU an example of bringing tech “closer to the grassroots,” saying it “has the potential to empower local communities… and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs.”
The Governor formally flagged off the MPU and marked a significant step towards bringing modern processing facilities closer to rural and remote areas.
He expressed confidence that such technology-driven interventions will play a vital role in accelerating inclusive development in the North Eastern region, supporting farmers, entrepreneurs and local producers through improved technology access.
NECTAR Director General Dr Arun Kumar Sarma said such initiatives are part of the agency’s effort to “leverage science and technology for the development of the North Eastern region” and boost livelihoods in backward areas.
CSIR‑CFTRI Director Dr Giridhar Parvatham stressed “scientific collaboration and technology‑driven solutions” for regional challenges.
