Shillong, Feb 27: In an organisational reshuffle ahead of political developments in the region, the National People’s Party (NPP) has appointed senior leader Mmhonlumo Kikon as its new National General Secretary (Political) with immediate effect.
According to an official notification issued by NPP National President Conrad K. Sangma on February 11, 2026, Kikon has been entrusted with a critical political coordination role across the Northeastern states.
The appointment, made under Article 11 of the party’s Constitution, signals a renewed push by the NPP to strengthen its regional footprint and sharpen its strategic alignment under the broader vision of “One Northeast.”
As Secretary (Political), Kikon will lead structured coordination and dialogue with political parties and stakeholders across the Northeast to advance strategic alliances and consultations, work closely with State Presidents and office bearers to review political developments, electoral preparedness, and inter-state organisational matters.
He has been tasked to hold regular consultations with MPs, MLAs, and other elected representatives of the party to ensure policy coherence and unified political messaging.
He will design and supervise political programmes, conventions, consultations, and outreach initiatives to expand the party’s presence and influence.
The notification directs all State Units and party functionaries to extend full cooperation in executing these responsibilities.
Kikon’s appointment is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening the party’s engagement with allied groups, elected representatives, and grassroots structures across multiple states.
