Imphal, Dec 2: The Manipur government has constituted state-level and district-level committees to accelerate the long-pending rehabilitation and resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs), signalling a renewed administrative push to restore stability for thousands of affected families.

Officials said the move reflects the government’s commitment to a coordinated, people-centred approach at a time when displaced communities continue to press for concrete action. On Monday, representatives of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (Cocomi) and IDP groups submitted a reminder to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, urging them to fulfil the assurance of resettling IDPs within December.

The newly constituted State Level Committee, headed by the Chief Secretary and comprising Commissioners of Finance, Home, and Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, will provide strategic oversight, policy direction, and address systemic challenges slowing down resettlement. The Special or Additional Secretary (Home) will serve as the convener.

According to officials, the high-powered body aims to streamline decision-making, improve inter-departmental coordination, and ensure uniform implementation of rehabilitation measures across districts.

District-level committees will mirror these efforts on the ground, focusing on localised planning, monitoring, and timely execution of resettlement initiatives.
