Imphal, Nov 28: Four Assam Rifles personnel were injured after militants launched an attack on a border post along the Indo-Myanmar frontier in Manipur early Friday morning.
The encounter began around 4:30 am when armed militants hurled bombs and opened fire at Assam Rifles troops deployed near border pillar numbers 85 and 86, close to Saibol and Maringthel villages in Tengnoupal district. The exchange of fire continued for about 30 minutes.
“The militants suddenly ambushed a group of Assam Rifles personnel near the border pillars in the Saibol–Maringthel area,” an official said.
All four injured jawans were evacuated for medical treatment.
The attackers reportedly fled across the border into Myanmar as additional security forces rushed to the site.
Security has since been tightened along the border, and joint operations have been launched in the area to track down the insurgents.
