Shillong, Oct 23: Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has demanded that all 30 Members of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) resign if they fail to resolve the issue faced by Lapangap village.
General secretary of the FKJGP West Jaintia Hills Nangkhrawbor Rani condemned the JHADC for not visiting Lapangap village despite the ongoing issue.
“If they cannot do anything about this issue, it is better for all MDCs to resign immediately,” he said after visiting Lapangap village to extend support to Pnar farmers carrying out paddy harvesting on Wednesday.
Rani expressed concern over the government’s “soft approach” towards Assam.
He also referred to a recent meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, where the federation had suggested setting up a temporary police camp at Lapangap. Rani believes that if this suggestion had been implemented, the recent incident could have been avoided.
The FKJGP general secretary said the federation reiterates its demands that the government immediately set up a police temporary camp at Lapangap to ensure the safety and security of the villagers.
This comes as paddy harvesting continues in the village, which is located along the disputed Assam-Meghalaya border.
