Mild quake jolts Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district

Boko, Oct 4: A mild earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale struck parts of Meghalaya on Saturday morning. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati, reported that the tremor occurred at 11:29 AM IST.

The epicentre was traced to Ri Bhoi district at latitude 25.93°N and longitude 91.57°E, with a shallow depth of 5 kilometres. Minor tremors were also felt in adjoining areas, but officials confirmed that no damage to property or casualties have been reported.

Authorities noted that low-intensity quakes are frequent in the Northeast, a seismically active zone, and urged residents not to panic while following standard safety measures in case of aftershocks.
