Assam Police arrest two students for alleged gang rape of Tripura girl

Guwahati, Sept 18: Assam police have arrested two students from Manipur for allegedly gang-raping a girl from Tripura.

Speaking to reporters, DCP (East) Amitav Basumatary said that the incident was first reported on September 16 at the Pani Khaity outpost, following which a case was registered at Pragjyotispur police station.

“On the night of September 13, a girl student along with five male students attended a party. The girl, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, later returned to her room. The next morning, she realized she had been raped by one of her male friends,” said an police official.

Meanwhile, police investigations led to the identification of the suspects, and two accused have been arrested. As both are minors, they were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.

Basumatary added that the identity of the survivor and accused cannot be disclosed as per legal provisions, and the investigation is ongoing.
