Shillong, Sept 6: Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Saturday inaugurated the Good Samaritan cum Counselling Centre at Khlieh Iewduh and said the centre is an initiative of the department aimed at providing support and guidance to young people struggling with addiction.

Speaking during the inaugural function, Lyngdoh said the centre would serve as a vital resource for youth in Iewduh, which has been severely affected by drug abuse.

According to him, the department is getting the support and cooperation of experienced counsellors and well-wishers who have successfully helped many young people overcome substance abuse.

Lyngdoh informed that the government is covering the rent for the centre, and caretakers have been appointed to manage the facility. He also announced that counsellors will receive incentive benefits for their services.

The minister  also expressed the government’s commitment to setting up more counselling centres based on demand, ensuring that the initiative reaches a wider audience and makes a meaningful impact in the community.
